Axel Einar Hjorth Pair Of Tables C 1932

$ 20,000

Courtesy of Formative Modern

A pair of pedestal base pine wood tables designed for Nordiska Kompaniet by Axel Einar Hjorth circa 1932. This design was part of the Sportstugemöbler series, a collection of wooden furniture designed for Swedish country homes (Sportstugemöbler means “sports cabin furnishings”). The furniture of this collection was simple, strong and elegant. Hjorth mixed the ideals of the modernist movement with provincial Swedish traditions, producing a unique and primitive modernism. Hjorth was radical in his creation of a new aesthetic vocabulary, but did not garner much attention from Swedish society during his lifetime.
